BACKGROUND

Interest in Science and Mathematics education should be inculcated from young. What better way than to start from children at their pre-school age, to enjoy learning these ‘so-called’ difficult subjects. Based on the successful development in February 2016 of a Fun Learning Toy Library at a rural school in Kelantan which was badly affected by ‘the’ 2015 flood, Adopt a Kampung CSR team from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, where IEM-WE is a collaborator, received a call for help from a rural school, in Bachok, Kelantan. Due to the increased number of pre-school students, Sekolah Kebangsaan Seneng, in Bachok was instructed a year ago to run a pre-school class but without any budget for a teacher nor facilities. A primary school teacher, assigned by the school headmaster to take up the class, had willingly gathered books, curtains, utensils, furniture from her own collection, friends and families to help her start her pre-school class of about 25 students. This has caught the IEM-WE committee attention and the intention to help complete the pre-school class facilities to enable a proper education to be delivered.  Therefore, from 10 to 12 March 2017, the team will make their way to Bachok, Kelantan to set-up a Fun Learning Toy Library, which will be officiated by the Kelantan Education Director.

The IEM-WE Section would like to invite members who are keen on charitable work to join the team in Kelantan to set-up the toy library or to provide contributions in kind such as toys, books, bookshelves and other classroom facilities (preferable if these can be delivered to the school directly).
