SYNOPSIS

The topic of the course covers on the “Front End” till the “Delivery End” of the power generation operation. “Front End” means fuel intake, while, the “Delivery End” refers to the products, which are steam and electricity. The subject discussed during the course will be on the fuel types used in boiler which covers liquid, gas and more on biomass as it has been the hot topic of the day. Participants will be briefed on the following:-
• fuel calorific values comparisons.
• the design and requirement of biomass fuel logistic and basic system.
• types of boilers “water tube” and “fire tube” and its functions in the industry.
• Steam type and quality as the product and in the plant application.
• Boiler combustion and excess air are

Some of the topics covered in Steam Plant Operation includes:
• water treatment plant, type of treatment and application.
• The sustainable management practice covers the good management practice in a highly and dynamic plant.
• the safety management aspect basic management of the plant.
• steam turbine related systems and it operation and maintenance issues.

Operation and maintenance issues will be highlighted and discussed as well. More than 50 tips to improve plant efficiency are being listed for discussion. Speaker also will discuss on Factory and Machinery Act (FMA) under Malaysian Law.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Wan Wai Thong was graduated with a Bachelor in Engineering Hons. Agriculture in 1993 from Universiti Putra Malaysia.  He worked his way up with the required knowledge and skills in palm oil milling industries. He obtained his 2nd grade steam engineer certificate by DOSH in 1995 and 1st grade steam engineer certificate by DOSH in 1997. In 1996, he obtained his Diploma in Palm Oil Milling and management offered by PORIM. He had worked in power plant for more than 6 years with experience in operation and maintenance of high pressure and temperature power plant, study and monitor boiler efficiency and related machineries.  He further his engineering quest by obtaining Professional Engineer certification by Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM) in year 2011 and is a member of Institute of Engineer Malaysia (IEM). Experienced in managing engineering and contracting works for 2 years.
