SYNOPSIS
          
APEC/EMF Register Malaysia’s involvement in the APEC Engineer Register was only in August 1997 when IEM participated and funded in the project workshop in Manila, Philippines to discuss on the framework for the best practices in engineering accreditation, recognition and professional development project.  A representative was send from IEM (YBhg. Dato Ir. Dr Gue See Sew) to the workshop. Malaysia became a founding member of APEC in November 1997. The EMF International Register is essentially the same as the APEC Engineer Register. It is a benchmark register to include all economies of the world that share the same objectives. It was the initiative of Engineer Mobility Forum (EMF), originally mooted by member of Washington accord countries. The Institution of Engineers Malaysia signed as a signatory to the EMF Agreement on 25 June 2001 in South Africa. The other economies in the signatory are Australia, Canada, Hong Kong (China), Ireland, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States of America also signed the Agreement. Asean Engineer Register was first mooted in the 14th AFEO Governing Board meeting in 1996 and was formed by AFEO embarked with the aim to spearhead and to facilitate the mobility of engineers within ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA). The purpose of its formation are to facilitate international mobility of experienced engineers and to provide a framework to recognize the substantial equivalence in professional competence and standing of experienced professional engineers deemed eligible for independent practice in another economy (i.e. country).The talk will focus on the role of the APEC/IPEAgreement and also the ASEAN Engineer Register and its usefulness of being a part of these registers and how it could benefit you as a member.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

YBhg. Dato Ir. Dr Gue See Sew is the CEO of G&P Professionals Sdn Bhd and Managing Director of G&P Geotechnics Sdn. Bhd.  He holds a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Oxford University.  His passion and commitment to serve the engineering fraternity in South East Asia and Asia Pacific has resulted him in being elected the Chair of APEC Engineers Coordinating Committee (Regional Engineering Register for the 21 economies in Asia Pacific) for eight years (2001-2005, 2007-2011) as  well as the Head Commissioner of ASEAN  Engineers Register from 2003-2007.
He was also the representative of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) to the International Consortium on Landslide (ICL). He is also active in the engineering education and research and has been appointed by twelve local universities in various capacities and has published 110 technical papers in various conferences and seminars including a number of keynote, theme lectures and special lectures. Currently YBhg. Dato Ir. Dr Gue is the Deputy Chair of the International Professional Engineer Agreement (2014-2017).
