SYNOPSIS

Leadership is like the rudder to a ship. It is an art and elusive in many organizations today. Statistics show that only a small percentage of leaders’ exhibit strategic leadership skills, an inadequate number considering the demands on organizations today. Leaders throughout organizations face tremendous pressures to produce results and meet the high expectations of shareholders. Strategic leadership skills aren’t needed only in times of growth. During tough times, when resources are tight, it is even more crucial for leaders to ensure that those resources are utilized efficiently and optimally. Leaders who excel at meeting short-term targets and solving functional problems are often unsure of the future challenges, especially in today’s complex and dynamic environment. How do we lead in ways that position a business for the future while meeting current demands? It requires a different set of skills from the day to day management. Strategic leadership requires us to think, act and influence others in ways that promote the enduring success of the organization. It is the ability of influencing others to voluntarily make decisions that enhance the prospects for the organization's success. Different leadership approaches impact the vision and direction of an organization. This talk will look at the various aspects, qualities, styles, approaches, art and principles of strategic leadership that can steer the organization for short, mid and long term success.

Ir. Dr. LING Chen Hoe    

Since 1990, employed by Meiden Malaysia (www.meiden.com.my), a company in the electrical engineering and construction industry in Malaysia. The company is a subsidiary of Meidensha Corporation, Japan (http://www.meidensha.com/index.html), a manufacturer of electrical equipment and provides electrical engineering products and services to both the private and public sectors in Malaysia.
Currently holds the position of Senior GM and Director in the company.
