SYNOPSIS

Close your eyes and picture an engineer! Engineers are making some of the biggest advances in our society, solving global warming, making medical breakthroughs and some of the biggest technologies that are changing our lives every day. So, did you picture a male or a female engineer?
Is engineering a “dirty, greasy and manual” career?
Are engineers boring, uncreative and unglamorous?
Do you think engineers work harder than their marketing or finance majors’ friends?
Gen Z wants jobs that are cool, fun and exciting! Gen X prefers to overwork and underpaid? Is that true?
Is it “cool” to be an engineer?

Let’s hear the views from the Millennials, Gen X, Y and Z! Explore the possibilities on how we can best work together to advance the engineering profession by attending this forum where we have brought together 3 male engineers and 3 female engineers from different generations to share us their perspective. How can the engineering profession ensure that it attracts and retains members of the younger generations? By understanding their motivations, strengths, and weaknesses, as well as the sources of those traits.

We welcome all suggestions for questions/topics to be discussed during the forum that you think is relevant to the theme. Please e-mail your suggestions to valli@iem.org.my
