SYNOPSIS
Baggage Handling is a significant element of passenger processing that the baggage is of major importance to a smooth airline operation at the airport. BHS must able to sort large numbers of bags quickly and with a high speed degree of performance reliability. Automated BHS become the most critical system in the airport terminal. Baggage flow to follow the flow of passenger, cargo, cres and vehicles.
Outbound baggage account 100% hold baggage screening (HBS) as stated in International Civil Aviation Authority ( ICAO) Annex 17.
In KLIA the BHS system design capacity is 2700 bag per hour during departure and arrival capacity is 9720 bag per hour. KLIA BHS consist of Mechanical, Electrical , Information Control System / SCADA system –video wall (Mimic Panel) and 278 unit Screening System. BHS facilities are centrally controlled from Central Control Room (CCR) with SCR back up room at Satellite. KLIA BHS uses IATA licence Plate Tags with automatic bar code scanner for automatic sorting and reconciliation. It has 4 level of screening process. Design with 12 rows check-in counter with 18 counters for each row. It also equipped with 4195 numbers of conveyors / 171 lines (MTB & SAT) and 7.61km SIEMENS tray conveyors. Total length of conveyor in KLIA is 44.6 km. The visit will explain the unique of KLIA BHS system and will bring you closely to system that most people unable to see.
