SYNOPSIS
TNB Research (wholly owned subsidiary of Tenaga Nasional Berhad) together with Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water has embarked on 100kWp pilot floating solar system in Sungai Labu Water Treatment Plant in Sepang, Selangor. The floating solar plant is installed on the water treatment pond itself supporting up to 432 solar panels and covers about 3.57% of the water surface (0.15 out of 4.20 ha). The installation of PV system on water bodies help minimize water evaporation by lowering the water temperature and reducing the size of water area exposed to air. The cooling effect of the water is also beneficial to the floating PV system as one of the major problem for solar panels is the loss of power with the increase of temperature. The aim of this technical visit is to learn the issues and challenges of implementing floating solar farm in Malaysia.
Note:
- HIGHLIGHT: In conjunction with AFEO Energy Tour 2016, please be informed that there will be a technical visit to Seri Ulu Langat’s 7MW Biomass Cogeneration Plant (morning session) before the visit to Floating Solar System. Do register this separate technical visit with us if you are interested! - The visit is strictly limited to only Fifteen (15) participants registered on a first come first pay basis.
