INTRODUCTION
TNB Janamanjung Sdn. Bhd. (TNBJ) was incorporated in August 1996 to spearhead the design, development, and management of the power plant which was to be coal-fired, in line with the national strategy to reduce heavy dependence on natural gas as fuel source for power generation. The TNB Janamanjung power plant is uniquely located on a 325 hectare wholly reclaimed island located approximately 10 km south of the port of Lumut, Perak. The original development consists of Manjung 1, 2, and 3 which are 3 x 700MW coal-fired units commissioned in 2003 with a net power of 2,100MW. In 2010 TNBJ was given a mandate from the Energy Commission of Malaysia to develop and deliver 1,000MW Manjung 4 and 1,000MW Manjung 5 plant which will be commissioned in 2015 and 2017 respectively. The two upcoming plants will adopt the ultra-supercritical boiler technology which is more efficient than the current conventional boilers operating in Malaysia. The new total net power of 4,100MW will represent 23% of the country’s total power capacity.
For this technical visit, participants will be visiting TNBJ’s On-Job-Training (OJT) and Simulator Department with the opportunity to learn and experience TNBJ’s power plant process and operations.
