SYNOPSIS

Underground infrastructure construction has been in high demand especially in developed city due to limited surface land. The engineering design of the underground infrastructures requires effective comprehensive assessment of ground conditions and formulation of appropriate solutions to ensure sustainable, cost effective and risk free infrastructure. This talk will present fundamentals and concepts that have enabled cost effective and risk free underground infrastructure construction solutions. Case histories from mega projects will be presented and highlighted.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Dr. Chong obtained his bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1994, Doctoral degree in Geotechnical Engineering at National University of Singapore, in 2004. Ir. Dr. Chong is currently the Technical Director of Infrastructure Unit at Aurecon Singapore.

Ir. Dr. Chong has 22 years of experience in geotechnical engineering including deep excavation, deep and shallow foundation, retaining wall, tunnelling (bored and mined tunnel, pipe jacking), design and construction administration, and site supervision. Moreover, Ir. Dr. Chong has wide experience in risk and safety management in underground construction work including review of contractor safety management system and project risk management system. He has worked on local and overseas infrastructure, commercial, civil, and residential projects include KVMRT SBK Line and Singapore MRT projects, and other projects at China, Vietnam, Azerbaijan and Middle East. He is member of IEM, GeoSS, SEAGS, and a registered Professional Engineer in Malaysia and Singapore.
