SYNOPSIS

The internet has resulted in many innovative solutions for addressing existing business and technology needs and has also provided opportunities to advance in areas which have traditionally been slow in evolving technologically.  An area which has seen significant deployment of existing technology to enhance and consolidated internet security is in the art of cryptography.

This presentation will describe areas in digital cryptographic systems which have an impact in the internet. It will also explore some solutions that have evolved to innovatively deploy cryptographic techniques to address issues of weakness in internet security and describe a holistic approach towards addressing security concerns in the rapidly evolving internet domain.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Eddy is presently the CEO of Devices World, a technology company that conceived, conceptualized and developed the patented internet ‘cloud’ based iSCADA system.  Prior to this appointment, he was an independent technology consultant. In this consultant role, his expertise in integration of advanced security technology into disparate IT systems (payment, transport, government and banking) provides a very unique and comprehensive value add into projects that involves the innovative use of smart cards in payment and identification.  Eddy has completed several assignments on national smart card projects and conceptualization of systems to accommodate new smart chip payment technology for Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC), the Malaysian government, Siemens, Shell and Unisys Corp.

From early 1998 to 2003, Eddy actively contributed to the deployment of the Malaysian MyKad, a chip based multi-application national ID card with biometrics. He also specified the automated border control systems which used fingerprint biometrics in conjunction with Malaysia’s contactless chip based passport (the world’s first implementation of ePassports). Both the MyKad and Malaysia’s chip biometrics passport (ePassport) pioneered the large scale deployment of secure identity documents utilizing chip and biometrics technology.
