SYNOPSIS

Reclamation has become more common in this country recently especially near the Southern region of Malaysia.  Unfortunately most of the reclamation has to deal with very soft soil near to the coastal region.  This talk will provide a general introduction of the common ground improvement methods used in this country.

The talk will cover reclamation methods commonly used in Malaysia including using TSHD and pelican/conveyor barge.   The talk will also cover general ground improvement methods suitable for different soil condition including PVD, sand compaction pile, vibro floatation etc.  Besides, limitation of each ground improvement method will also be discussed.
  

PROFILE OF SPEAKER

Ir. Lee Kai Ming is a practising geotechnical engineer, graduating in civil engineering from Liverpool University (UK) and later obtaining a master’s degree in business administration from University of Sunshine Coast, Australia.  Since graduated in 2001, he first joined Arup Jururunding Sdn Bhd as a geotechnical engineer between year 2001 and 2003.  He later joined specialist contractors including Bauer (M) Sdn Bhd and also Keller (M) Sdn Bhd between year 2003 and 2010.  During his years with specialist contractor he was involved in many large scale foundation and ground improvement works including Mid Valley Megamall (Phase 2), One KLCC, and IPB Double Track etc.  He later joined Dialog E&C and was assigned as project engineer for the reclamation works for Independent Deepwater Terminal in Pengerang, Johor.  During his time with Dialog, he was also involved in review and tank foundation design for various projects including Tg. Langsat Terminal and also for the Pengerang Terminal.  

Ir. Lee Kai Ming is currently the director for GCU Consultants (Johor) Sdn Bhd and in charge of the full operation of the Johor branch.  The recent jobs he has involved in Johor include Pengerang Terminal (Phase 2), Forest City Reclamation (S1 & S2) and also geotechnical assessment for RAPID
