SYNOPSIS

Open source application for IT/IP infrastructure construction has been advancing steadily without attracting much attention. It started with server OS and email server, building of LAMP stack etc. Today, most of billion dollars IPO in the west are fully deploying open source infrastructure. Example are plentiful. Some tools that are used for such companies are within reach of every company that has desire to build their own infrastructure from hosting to cloud, Security to NMS. Open source infrastructure tools are horizontal and vertical tools that apply to all industries and businesses. Hardware platform are no longer proprietary but commodity based components readily available at a fraction of the cost known. UTP cable and fiber optic has also help to enable all the formerly proprietary systems to move to open source direction.

This talk will walk through pass 25 years of IT and IP development and share unavoidable trends in these areas of development.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

L.C. Chen is presently the Managing Director of Sita Group of Companies, a company involved in providing total enterprise - wide network solutions to major corporates in Malaysia and within Asean region. He graduated from University of Reading, England, U.K. in 1976 with B. Sc.- in Mathematics & Computer Science.  He is a Member/EXCO of MNCC, KLSCCCI,   and FGBMF.

Professional working experiences include working in NCR locally and Asia-Pacific region. Promoting Open Source Software and Hardware is one of his hobby.
