SYNOPSIS

In this workshop, participants will learn how to form and support students in developing team-working skills and learn together in their teams in a typical classroom based on the principles of Cooperative Learning (CL).  Participants will also learn how to design effective learning environments (including projects) with the necessary scaffolding and assessment.  Practical implementation aspects as well as tips and pitfalls to avoid will be shared by facilitators who are practitioners of the approach for more than ten years.

This workshop imparts an overall view of conducting student centered learning (SCL) in classes, which can be used to fulfil the requirements of Outcome-based Education (OBE), to lecturers or trainers.  This is the second workshop of four parts on effective implementation of SCL techniques.  As a follow-up to Part 1, more elegant formal cooperative learning techniques, as well as when and how to use them to form learning teams among students, will be the discussed.

Learning outcomes:-

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1.    form and support development of learning teams in classrooms
2.    explain and use the 5 principles of cooperative learning to develop learning teams
3.    explain a formal cooperative learning structure
4.    design and plan learning environments that support the development of learning teams
