SYNOPSIS
The Bill of Quantities (BQ) is an essential part of a Project and is the agreed statement of the prices which will be paid for work done by the Contractor for the Client. In Malaysia, several standard methods of measurement (SMM) ranging from CESMM-UK and the SMM by the Royal Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia. The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) of Malaysia has in November 2011 launched the MyCESMM which aim to standardize the SMM for civil engineering projects in Malaysia. MyCESMM, which replaces the Malaysian Standard Method for Measurement of Civil Engineering Construction introduced in 2003, covers a wider range of civil engineering works. It is expected to contribute towards delivering cost effective civil engineering projects through the adoption of best practices in the preparation of the bill of quantities (BQ). The implementation of MyCESMM would eliminate discrepancies and ambiguities in the BQ, facilitate better understanding of the nature of work to be done and thus reduce potential claims and dispute during the construction stage.
Two complementing publications to the “MyCESMM” are: - o “A Guide to MyCESMM”, and o “Library of Standard BQ Description for MyCESMM.
A Guide to MyCESMM provides detailed technical clarifications on work items found in MyCESMM while the Library of Standard BQ Description for MyCESMM provides comprehensive options of list of description of work items to facilities users of MyCESMM in the preparation of BQs.
