SYNOPSIS

Ethics is simply "doing the right things the right way." We often overestimate the cost of doing the right thing and underestimate the cost of failing to do the right thing. Nevertheless, ethical decision making in business is often emphasised but rarely fully understood. Scandals and corporate corruptions still permeate the news media, creating sensational headlines and making people more skeptical whether business is still just a game or war! Is ethics a must in business? If yes, whose ethics apply?

Do ethics apply to business? If so, whose ethics apply? What is the business impact of unethical business conduct? Are good people disadvantaged in conducting business in an ethical manner? Possibly but that should not be used as an excuse to do the wrong thing. This philosophy of conducting business ethically should apply to everything handled by a business and its employees at all times.

This talk is intended to increase participants’ awareness of the various principles of ethics and their respective implications when applied in decision making. It also provides some practical ways of dealing with ethical dilemmas encountered in business dealings.
