SYNOPSIS
The talk will draw upon aspects of Prof. Tim Ibell's inaugural address as President of the Institution of Structural Engineers with particular emphasis on the Institution’s new initiative aimed at helping students and graduates develop a deeper understanding of structural behaviour that will assist them as they embark upon their professional careers.

In the second part of the talk, Prof. Tim Ibell will talk about developments in fabric formwork and the research activity he leads at UK’s Bath University. As a practical and aesthetically pleasing way of achievement in material reduction, fabric formwork has the potential to help reduce costs as well as the carbon legacy of new construction.
