ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Professor Dr. John L. Wilson

John L Wilson is the Executive Dean of Engineering and Industrial Sciences at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. He was the Victorian Division Chairman of Engineers Australia in 2002, and is a member of the steering committee for the Victorian Infrastructure Report Card 2005 and 2010, Chairman of BD6/ 11, the committee responsible for the earthquake loading standard for Australia, a member of ACI307 Committee and Chairman of Judges for the 2011 and 2013 Victorian Engineering Excellence Awards.

Professor Dr. Ray Su

Ray Su is an Associate Professor in structural engineering at the University of Hong Kong. His current research interests lie in the development of new theories suitable for strengthening concrete components using external steel plates, the seismic assessment of concrete and masonry structures by the coefficient-based method, and the evaluation of fracture properties of concrete and graphite using new inverse techniques. He is a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers as well as a chief examiner of the Structural Discipline of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.

Professor Dr. Koh Chan Ghee

Koh Chan Ghee is a professor at Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, National University of Singapore. Professor Koh's research interest has primarily been in structural dynamics, with applications on vibration isolation and control, system identification, nonlinear dynamic analysis, and experimental dynamics. He is active in the professional and academic circle, serving in four journal editorial boards, including as an associate editor of a US-based journal on Structural Health Monitoring. He is also a registered professional engineer (civil) and has been engaged as an advisor/consultant in numerous projects including vibration analysis/measurement of many major infrastructure developments including close to vibration study of twenty high-tech projects in Singapore, Malaysia and China.

Professor Dr. Han Seon Lee

Han Seon Lee is a Professor at School of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering, Korea University. He was a researcher for Korea National Housing Corporation, a Fellow at the Board of Audit and Inspection of Korea and a Honorary Member of The Korean Structural Engineers Association.

Dr. Nguyen Dai Minh

Nguyen Dai Minh is currently a Director of Industrial, Infrastructural and Environmental Engineering of Vietnam Institute for Building Science & Technology (IBST), Hanoi, Vietnam. He is a Member of the Vietnamese Society of Structural Engineers, a Member of the Vietnamese Society of Civil Engineer, a Fellowship of Vietnam Society of CAD and IT Application in Civil Engineering and Construction and a Member of the Vietnam Society of Mechanics.

Professor Dr. Murat Saatcioglu

Murat Saatcioglu is a Professor of Structural Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Ottawa, Canada.  Professor Saatcioglu's research interests include behavior and design of reinforced concrete structures, with particular emphasis on seismic behavior and design of concrete buildings and bridges. He is the President of the Canadian Association for Earthquake Engineering. He is also the editor and co-author of the first Canadian Metric Design Handbook for Reinforced Concrete Design and has contributed to the National Building Code of Canada, as well as other building codes and standards in the U.S.

Dr. Kushan Wijesundara

Kushan Wijesundara is a senior lecturer in Civil & Infrastructure Engineering in Asian Institute of Technology, Sri Lanka.  His research interest is in Earthquake Engineering, Structural Dynamics. He has published over 80 technical publications.

Professor Dr. Friedemann Wenzel

Friedemann Wenzel is currently a professor at the Geophysical Institute, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany, a position he has held since 1994. Prof. Wenzel has been involved in research since 1979 and was the Principal Research Scientist for the Division of Exploration Geoscience, Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, Sydney, Australia and Fellow at School of Earth Sciences of Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. He also served as the Director of the Department 'Structure of the Earth' at GeoForschungs Zentrum Potsdam, and Professor of Geophysics at Potsdam University from 1992 to 1994.

Professor Dr. Nelson Lam

Nelson Lam, Reader in Civil Engineering at the University of Melbourne, Australia is an internationally recognized expert in earthquake engineering and structural dynamics. In the past 20 years, he has been researching and consulting widely in this field. He served as member of the sub-committee for developing the new standard for Earthquake Actions in Australia and was co-editor and co-author of the standard’s commentary. His early career was with Scott Wilson International as structural engineer in their Hong Kong Office throughout the 1980’s and attained chartered engineer status in 1986.

Dr. Tsang Hing Ho

Hing-Ho Tsang is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Science, Engineering & Technology,  School of Engineering, Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. He has taught at the University of Hong Kong, and is currently a Visiting Professor at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He has published over 80 technical publications. He is currently serving as an Advisor for the Hong Kong Housing Authority on seismic design of building structures.

Ir. Adjunct Professor MC Hee

MC Hee is a practicing Structural Consulting Engineer and Principal of M C Hee & Associates. His expertise is in the design and construction of high-rise buildings particularly in value engineering and alternative design. His philosophy is "design for simplicity and buildability'' with a "total concept approach". He has over 40 years' of experience in this field. He was a Vice President of IEM and an active member of Technical Committee drafting the Malaysian National Annex of EC8. He is Adjunct Professor in Civil Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, University Malaya.

Engr. Looi Ting Wee

Daniel Looi is a PhD candidate in University of Hong Kong under supervision of Prof. Ray Su, researching on earthquake and structural engineering. Prior to postgraduate study, he worked as a structural application engineer serving both high-rise building and plant industry. Around 5 years of experience, he has done numerous demonstration, training and professional consultancy to various companies in South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, India and the Middle East. He is actively involved in IEM C&S WGl committee for Malaysia EC8 earthquake code annex drafting.
