i) Kuala Lumpur Flood Mitigation Project Klang Valley is the most developed area in Malaysia, especially at the city center of Kuala Lumpur. Due to the rapid development and urbanization, flooding in Kuala Lumpur city center has become more frequent and severe. To reduce flood in the city centre Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID) has implemented Kuala Lumpur Flood Mitigation Master Plan in stages. The first phase is to reduce Sg. Klang catchment’s runoff into the city by constructing the Storm water Management and Road Tunnel (SMART Tunnel) and the second phase is to address Sg. Gombak and its tributaries by construction of retention ponds and bypass channels. This visit will include visit to Sg.Klang River Basin Office (PLSK) control centre, retention ponds and associated hydraulic structures.
ii) Sg. Gombak Barrage Part of flood mitigation plan for Kuala Lumpur city centre is to reduce Sg. Gombak flow into the city. This was done by bypassing the flow towards Batu Pond by construction of Sg. Gombak bypass and a barrage to control the flow at the intake. The barrage is operated by Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia.
