SYNOPSIS
Offshore facilities have diverse operational requirements due to the difference in user populations and the design intent of the facilities. However, most offshore facilities design is focused on the process requirements rather than the operational requirements of the facilities. Due to the location offshore, these facilities face several operational challenges which are often underestimated. The talk will provide an overview of the design of offshore facilities from the material handling perspectives. The term ‘material handling’ refers to all methods of handling of materials, supplies and brownfield installations work. Among the subjects that will be discussed are general material handling considerations, material handing needs such as handling provisions, installation requirements and regulatory compliance, recent development and engineering practices in the offshore facilities operation and the usage of engineering tools and others operational studies in design development activities.
