Synopsis

This half-day course aims to impart upon the participants about the importance of proper selection and specification of the chain for reliable operation in the factory and its equipment. The selection of chain material and treatment processes and alternatives should be aimed at optimizing chain specifications for the differing operating conditions in a factory. The correct alignment and installation of chains and sprockets is a very important process to make chain run more efficiently. The most important aspect of utilizing chain is its maintenance. Chain maintenance is carried out to ensure maximum durability and longer operating life cycle; and thereby reap the benefits of reduced repair and maintenance costs as well as to prevent costly breakdowns in the factory. Chain maintenance involves regular cleaning and checks on chain as well as preventive maintenance for the various operating conditions.

Chains have played a big role in the palm oil industry for many years but many are still not familiar with the importance of proper chain management and maintenance. Proper chain material selection, chain alignment techniques, chain installation process, commissioning of a new chain including the right maintenance and lubrication process can minimise chain wear and chain elongation and effectively maximise chain life. This course includes a technical discussion session, during which the participants can find out more on why their chain might fail prematurely and how to identify and eliminate causes of chain failure.
