SYNOPSIS
This course aims to give the participant a thorough understanding of the basic principles of various NDT methods, fundamentals, discontinuities in different product forms, importance of NDT, applications, limitations of NDT methods and techniques and codes, standards and specifications related to non-destructive testing technology In addition, this short course will complement the national training and certification program of NDT personnel.
At the end of the course, participants should be able to: • explain the fundamental principles of non destructive testing methods • analyze the NDT methods for evaluating discontinuities
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
The course is applicable to a wide range of disciplines and areas especially any personnel who plan to involve and responsible in project. The course also can be a refreshment course for engineer, technologist, technician, contractor, academician, student, etc.
BIODATA OF THE SPEAKER
Ir. Dr. Tan Chee Fai is a practising mechanical consultant, researcher and academician. He is graduated with Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and M. Sc. (Manufacturing Systems Engineering) from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), as well as PhD in Industrial Design Engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), the Netherlands. He is a registered Professional Engineer (Mechanical) with Board of Engineers, Malaysia (2006) and a member of Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (2005). He actively involved in academic, publication, consultation as well as research, design and development activities. His field of expertise covers the aspects of mechanical engineering, industrial design engineering, artificial intelligence, transportation engineering, industrial automation and human-technology interaction design. He has vast experience in mechanical design of machinery, robotic and commercial vehicles. He has lead numbers of university and Malaysia Government funded projects as well as international funded projects. He has published more than 100 publications in international and local journals and conference proceedings that related to mechanical engineering. He is actively involved in Institution of Engineers, Malaysia since 1998, where he is the member of various committees such as Executive Committee Member, Council Member, Hon. Sec./Treasurer of METD, G&S, etc. within IEM HQ and current Vice Chairman of IEM Melaka Branch. He is a qualified HRDF trainer and HRDF Recognition Prior Learning (RPL) Assessor.
Prof. Dr. Qumrul Ahsan got BSc Engg (1986) and MSc Engg (1987) in Metallurgical Engineering at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, BUET (Bangladesh) .After his graduation he first joined the largest steel plant in Bangladesh and then he joined Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. He was attended and received the the UNDP/IAEA/RCA Regional Training Course on Non-Destructive Testing- Ultrasoic , Level 3, as well as Magnetic Particle and Liquid Penetrant, Level 3. Finally he joined as a faculty member in the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (MME), BUET in 1991. His engineering background helps MME Department in developing course curriculum and laboratory infrastructure. In 1993 he was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to pursue higher studies in the University of Birmingham, UK. After completion of his Ph.D in 1997, he came back and resumed his charges in the MME Department at BUET. At present he is discharging duties as Professor of University Teknikal Malaysia, Melaka (UTeM ).
