SYNOPSIS

Realistically the engineer cannot be just an engineer any more. He must be a multi-faceted business machine. To succeed as a businessman, he must be equipped with much-needed skills and know-how in this area.  Towards this end, the IEM Business Club, APEC/EMF Registration Committtee, IEM and MAICSA are organising an evening talk on the following topics:
•    Company Formation & Why Choose Your Company Secretary – What you need to know to incorporate a limited company, its requirements, responsibilities and compliances; and the role of a company secretary and the value it adds to the Board.
•    Critical Things to Know in Business  & Corporate Tax - To Understand the Importance of Financial Statements and Cashflow, the Ability to Differentiate between Accounting and Tax Treatment of Expense and Planning to save on  tax
•    Circumstances leading to Tax Audit and Investigation - To help participants to have a better understanding about tax audit and investigation. This talk will also highlight the difference between circumstances or transactions which will lead to tax audit and investigation by inland revenue board officers and how to handle such a situation.


BIODATA OF SPEAKERS

Peter Lim Thiam Kee is the Vice President of MAICSA. Peter is very active in his work with the non-governmental organisations (NGOs). He is the Chairman of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (Malaysia Branch). He sits as a Council member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) and Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia. He is currently the Chairman of the Tax Practice Committee in MIA and Public Practice Committee in MICPA. He had served as the Chairman of the Investigation Committee and Public Practice Committee in MIA. Sharing his expertise further, he has served as a Committee member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Small Medium Practices Committee from January 2006 to December 2008. He still serves as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board and has been holding this position from 2003 to-date. Peter has his own practice and is the managing partner of T K Lim & Associates, Chartered Accountants since 1980 and has over 29 years of experience in corporate advisory and corporate consultancy services, taxation, statutory audit and financial advisory services

Akbar Moidunny was the President of the Institute from 2007 to 2009. He has served as Deputy President, Vice President and Honorary Secretary of the Institute. He still serves on the Bar Council’s Investigating Tribunal and has been holding this position for the past five years. Akbar represents the Institute on the Corporate Panel Consultative Forum (CPCF), a group comprising industry players formed by the Companies Commission of Malaysia. Currently he is the Deputy Chairman of National Investigation Group and Group Chairman / Managing Director of MINC Corporate Consultants (M) Sdn Bhd which provides corporate secretarial and financial consultancy services to more than 2000 companies. He has been instrumental in settling numerous corporate disputes, successfully negotiating joint-ventures and mergers, turning around companies to stable financial condition in the shortest possible time, assisting in preparation of shareholders agreements and joint-venture agreements, strategic planning etc. His expertise in negotiations has taken him to Australia, United Kingdom, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, India, UAE, Qatar etc where he has successfully concluded many corporate deals

Ong Whee Tiong was elected to the Council on 10 May 2008. He worked for various professional firms from 1977 to 1981 after which he left to commence public practice as a Chartered Secretary. Currently, he is a director cum principal consultant of Proserve Corporate Services Sdn Bhd, a firm offering corporate secretarial advisory services to a wide range of clients. He is also an approved tax agent under Section 153(3) of the Income Tax Act 1967. Apart from his professional works, he is actively involved in various community works, resident associations, non-profit charitable foundations and sporting organizations. For his service to the community and the country, he was awarded the Ahli Mangku Negara and the Kesatria Mangku Negara by the DYMM Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
