SYNOPSIS

Offshore medicals are carried out to ensure an individual is fit to work in an offshore oil and gas exploration and production environment and travel to a specific country, and to promote good health in general.

It is recognized that due to its remoteness and possible inclement weather, offshore work may sometimes expose workers to unacceptable health and safety risks and delay in getting proper medical attention. Minor ailments may become major life threatening emergencies due to such delays. Offshore work also requires a reasonable degree of physical strength, endurance and agility. Additionally, prolonged shift work and long absence from family may cause mental stress that adds to the overall health and safety risks of offshore workers.

The offshore medical examination includes: General questionnaire, health screening which includes: - height, weight, eyesight, blood pressure, body mass index (BMI) measurement, hearing test, urine sample , blood sample and finally consultation and physical examination by an “Approved Medical Examiner” to the current offshore guidelines. Only personnel who has passed their medical examination is allowed to work offshore.
