Smart partnership in Building Resilience and Reshaping Smart and Sustainable Cities.

SYNOPSIS:
The goal of the Partnership for Smart Cities and Communities is to develop novel approaches to the pressing problems of urban sustainability, equity, and health. High energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, poor air quality, and traffic congestion are some of the issues that need to be addressed to make progress towards the climate action targets. The smart city concept relies heavily on collaboration between public and commercial sectors in the development and funding of programmes and services. In fact, public-private partnerships (PPPs) are widely acknowledged as a valuable instrument for boosting service quality and, more importantly, ensuring the long-term financial viability of providing those services. Co-defining, co-producing, and most importantly, co-financing innovative projects is made possible when enterprises and private capital are brought into the mix. By pooling its resources, the Partnership hopes to remove obstacles to the transition to smart cities, co-fund demonstration projects, and facilitate the coordination of ongoing local programmes and projects.
