Synopsis

Geotechnical engineering always is an important element in civil engineering works. With proper understanding in geotechnical engineering, an engineer will be able to provide practical and safe design on foundation, slope stability, retaining wall and ground improvement. Therefore, this seminar is aimed to provide a platform to the members to have better understanding on the following subjects (from planning to design and to construction):

* Subsurface investigation (SI) works
* Slope stability
* Embankment design and ground improvement
* Soil nailing
* Pile foundation : Driven piles, Jack in piles, micropile, caisson and testing

About Speakers

1) Ir. Dr Ooi Lean Hock graduated with BE and PhD from University of Sydney, Australia.  He has worked as a geotechnical consultant and as a specialist contractor.  He is the Head of Geotechnical in the Design and Technical Division of Gamuda Engineering Sdn Bhd.  

2) Ir. Tan Yean Chin is a Senior Director of G&P Geotechnics Sdn Bhd.  He obtained his Master of Engineering (Geotechnical Engineering), Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 1994. He has published more than 60 technical papers on geotechnical engineering in local and overseas conferences and seminars.

3) Ir. Oh Chin Wah, a graduate from University of Malaya with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.) in Civil, is currently the Executive Director of Geohan Sdn. Bhd. He has obtained extensive experience in geotechnical design and construction involving bored pile, micropile, caisson pile, ground anchorage, soil nailing and guniting, slope vegetation system, as well as ground treatment method such as jet grouting and compaction grouting

4) Ir. Teh Kim Ong obtained his B. Eng. (Civil) (1st class hons.) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He obtained B. Eng. (1st class hons.) from Universiti Teknology Malaysia and gold medal award from IEM in 1992.  Since 1997, he involved in dynamic pile testing, geotechnical & environmental monitoring works. Since establishing T Testing Engineers in 2007, he involves in dynamic pile analysis and testing.

5) Ir. Yee Thien Seng graduated in civil engineering from University of Malaya in 1978 and has over the years worked on projects largely involving heavy plant and building foundations as well as large infrastructures.  In 1994, Ir. Yee set up his own practice, Geo.Consult, to support the construction industry with both expert and specialist advice; in particular on geotechnical engineering aspects. He has authored/co-authored more than a dozen technical papers in local and international conferences.

6) Ir. Kenny Yee graduated with 1st Class Honours in 1984 from University of New South Wales Australia. He worked for Randwick Municipal Council in Sydney before returning home to join Menard in 1987. He is now the Regional Director of Menard Southeast Asia. He has 26 years of working experience of which 23 years in the field of ground improvement technology.    

7) Ir. Liew Shaw Shong is a Senior Director of G&P Geotechnics Sdn Bhd. He obtained his M.Sc.Eng in Geotechnical Engineering from University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. In the past ten years of professional career, he has been involved in the design, construction and maintenance review of slope projects and hill site development.

8) Ir. Chow Chee Meng is a Director of G&P Geotechnics. Ir. Chow Chee Meng obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from University of Malaya and won the Chan Sai Soo prize for the best engineering undergraduate thesis. He has written numerous papers on engineering subjects in international and local conferences and journals.
