Synopsis
In recent years there has been an increasing attention on blasting activity at quarry operation as well as constructional blasting work especially on the environmental impacts of blasting. This one-day short course will discuss the environmental effects of surface and underground blasting and monitoring techniques of blast-induced ground vibration, air blast and noise. Blasting activity at highly populated area induced both fears and anxieties of the people living within the blast radius as well as comprises on their safety and may causes property damages.
Therefore, correct blast monitoring must be carried out in a proper manner to ensure that the results captured are both reliable and precise. This is not only to ensure compliance with the operational conditions imposed by the Authorities but also to protect both the project proponent and the blaster from claim of potential or alleged damages from blasting work. This short course also aims to allow the participants to develop a greater understanding and know-how on blast monitoring, analysis and record keeping of monitoring results.
Biodata of The Speakers
Ir. Juna Azleen bin Abdul Ghani graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Pulau Pinang in Mineral Resources Engineering in 1998. In the year 2000, he joined Jabatan Mineral & Geosains (JMG) and started his service at JMG Head Quarter in Kuala Lumpur. Then in 2010 he pursued Master of Science in Mineral Resources Engineering at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Pulau Pinang. His study was about determination of site factors for scaled distance technique for blasting activity at quarry. Currently he is a Deputy Director of Quarry and Mines at JMG Johor. Ir. Juna Azleen has interest in blasting especially in production blasting at quarry as well as controlled blasting at construction area. He is regularly invited to present papers on blasting at seminars and symposiums, and had also given lectures at courses related to blasting and blast monitoring conducted by the Institute of Quarrying Malaysia, Malaysia (IQM), Quarrying Association and Institutions of higher learning. He is a Professional Engineer registered with Board of Engineer Malaysia, a Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers, Malaysia and Fellow of Institute Quarrying Malaysia.
Ir. Hj. Look Keman bin Sahari graduated in mining engineering from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland in 1979. He obtained M.Sc in Explosives Ordnance Engineering from Cranfield University (1991). He had attended many blasting courses locally organised by local explosive companies and in-house while he was serving as an engineer with the Mines Department (1979-1996). He had also attended courses on Explosives Technology for Open Pit and Underground Blasting (Queen University, Canada), Advanced Blasting organised by ICI /IQM ,1995 locally and Drilling & Blasting for Tunnelling (New Delhi). He had also given lectures on the subject at IEM and also Institute of Quarrying, Malaysia. He is also well versed in blast monitoring. He is currently a consultanting engineer, specialising in blasting. He is a Fellow of IEM, Committee member of Oil and Gas and mining Technical Division and also IEM Training Board.
