SYNOPSIS
The construction of the MRT Line 1 elevated viaduct commenced in 2012 and was successfully completed in 2015. The elevated viaduct from the starting chainage at Sungai Buloh until One Utama Station in Damansara is supported by various foundation systems which include cast-in place bored piles, jack-in spun piles, caisson, shallow foundation etc. taking the site geology and site constraints into consideration. In this talk, the design methodology, the parameters adopted in the design including the verification of these parameters by the test pile results and some of the geotechnical challenges that were faced during the construction shall be presented. Other geotechnical design and construction issues related to the foundation shall also be discussed in detail.
SPEAKER’S BIODATA
Ir. Sharmeelee graduated with B. Eng (Civil) from Karnataka Regional Engineering College, India in 1998. She obtained her Master degree in Geotechnical Engineering from NUS Singapore in 2003 after a brief period as a lecturer in Inti College, KL. She joined GCU Consultants Sdn Bhd in 2004 as a geotechnical engineer and was promoted to be a Technical Director since 2016. During this period of 15 years in GCU, she has been involved in large civil engineering projects providing geotechnical consultancy services including MRT1, MRT2 Underground, Electrified Double Track projects, Pos Betau Hill road, DASH, Jimah Power Plant, BBCC, etc. Her scope covers the full range of geotechnical engineering including foundation, ground treatment, slopes, walls & retention systems for highways, railways, high rise buildings and large civil infrastructure projects.
