SYNOPSIS

YAB Prime Minister said ….”High technology sector plays an important role in driving economic growth. Our mastery of technology will provide us with the strength and capacity to be a leader and not just a follower”. Since 2016, MIGHT has been focusing more on cross platform & convergence of technologies & industry. Our work is mainly focusing on the:
•    Adoption & Adaption  
•    Provision of facilitation & connection to adopt/adapt
•    Strategic plan to adopt/adapt
•    Impact & Implications
•    Understanding the impact & implication of 4IR to members/stakeholders
•    The role of 4IR technologies in the organization/industry value chain

The climate in the Shipbuilding & Ship Repair (SBSR) is no different. It takes the cue from the path taken by the Government in order to chart the course for IR 4.0. Factors shaping the Shipbuilding industry takes the shape of five distinct references and these are:
•    Environmental regulation
•    Naval sectors & Securities
•    Seaborne trade
•    Green energy, and
•    Disruptive technology (IR 4.0 technologies)

On the Ship Repair front, the landscape is rather slow and challenges are abundance. The speaker shall attempt to initially focus on the Government aspiration and later gradually move into the details of SBSR and how IR 4.0 interlace with its development.


SPEAKER BIODATA

First Admiral Dato' Ir Ahmad Murad Omar (Retired) spent 33 years in the Royal Malaysian Navy and opted for early retirement in 2007 at the age of 49 years old. Graduated from UTM with a Bachelor Engineering (Mechanical) and pursued a Master’s Degree in Business Engineering Management (Warwick University). Upon retiring Admiral Murad became became CEO of Motor Technology Industry an automotive engineering company till 2009 and later as a consultant in Six Sigma Performance Management Consultancy. In 2010 Admiral Murad became the Executive Chairman of OMAHAMS Corp Sdn Bhd till the present day. He is a Fellow of IEM and IMarEST as well as Honorary Vice President of IMarEST UK. He also is Professional Engineer and a Chartered Engineer with Board of Engineers Malaysia and UK Engineering Council respectively.
