SYNOPSIS
Malaysia is emerging as a major deepwater oil and gas production hub. Starting from 1998, the first weatherveaning FPSO was installed named FPSO Perintis. Continually, the weatherveaning mooring type FPSO was constructed and installed such as Bunga Kertas, FPSO Kikeh and the latest is FSO Bergading mainly external turret anchored. The water depth is range from 60m to 1300m water depth.
This presentation will cover the fundamental aspects of the structural design of an FPSO conversion. This will include the selection and the assessment of the hull, the design of structural appurtenances, the design of the topsides structures, the design of different types of the mooring structures and all the interfaces between the hull, topsides and mooring structures. The presentation will also covers the structural challenges and what it takes to produce a safe and optimized structural design without compromising the safety aspect.
SPEAKER BIODATA
Ir. Jamil Bin Ahmad CEng MIMarEST has been working with various offshore structure contractors and client since the past 30 years. Since the last 12 years, he is working with SBM Offshore which is the largest FPSO provider in the world. He is currently holding a position as Structural Manager and is also appointed as the Hull Structural Technical Expert. He involves in the design and leading the structural team for FPSO structural conversion scope on hull appurtenances, structural interfaces and structural mooring. He is also supporting SBM group to produce group technical standard related to the hull structures. He has graduated from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Civil Engineering.
