SYNOPSIS

Railway project is multi-disciplinary by nature and usually it is divided into civil construction and procurement of Railway System equipment. Railway System is usually further breakdown into Subsystems; including Signalling, Communication, Rolling Stock, Permanent Way, Power Supply, SCADA, Platform Doors or Gates, Fare collection, Security Control and Maintenance Management System. As the trend is to build fully automatic railway with minimal human intervention, modern Railway Subsystems are connected and interact with each other. Therefore, System Integration become essential to ensure that all Subsystems are working harmoniously with each other.


SPEAKER BIODATA

Dr. Lam established his technical expertise in the design and implementation of expert systems for “paperless factory” in Australia, China, Asian countries and USA. He had also provided consultancy services to multi-national such as Nabisco Co Ltd. in USA, Hyundai in Korea, Uncle Toby’s and Shell in Australia. Dr. Lam was Assistant Director in the Taiwan High Speed Railway Corporation, responsible for the design and implementation of signaling and communication systems with total value of USD 1.1 billion, and followed by other railway projects in Malaysia.. Moreover, he has more than 10 years of experience in management of USD 100 million core systems asset in MTRCL and THSRC.

With formal education in Electrical Engineering, Dr. Lam had also obtained Postgraduate Diploma in Computing, Master of Business Administration in Technology Management, and Doctor of Technology from world class universities. Dr. Lam is active in publications and had presented 11 papers at several major international conferences. He was also a Certified Project Management Trainer on PMI courses. Dr. Lam is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Australia, Fellow of the Hong Kong Quality Management Association, Member of the Hong Kong Computer Society and Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineer. He had also served as member of the Professional Assessment Committee of Hong Kong Institute of Engineers and in other key positions in professional societies.
