SYNOPSIS

Many countries carry out so called road safety reviews others call them road safety audits of existing roads. The World Road Association (PIARC) took the initiative to clarify the definitions and develop guidelines of the pro-active procedures of Road Safety Audits (RSA) and Road Safety Inspection (RSI). PIRAC has clarified that; a Road Safety Audit (RSA) is a formal process best conducted by an independent auditor, by which applies to new roads being design and constructed. On other hand, RSI is a systematic on-site review of an existing road by driving and walking to identify hazardous conditions, faults and deficiencies that may lead to serious accidents. MIROS has taken the initiative to developed the first Malaysian RSI guideline and moving towards being accredited by the Department of Standards Malaysia as a credible inspection body. This talk will introduce RSI and highlights the difference between RSA in terms of auditor/inspector qualification and procedures.
