Biodata of Facilitator

1. Ir. Al’azmy Ahmad

Ir. Al’azmy Ahmad has vast experience in engineering projects over the last 32 years, since he graduated from University of Malaya in 1977. He has worked in various sectors of engineering such as airlines, oil & gas industries, petrochemical plants, commercial, manufacturing and institutional building services. Currently he is practicing as a Professional Engineer at Antara Jurutera Perunding Sdn. Bhd., a local leading M&E Engineering

Consultancy firm and part-time facilitator for training programmes such as:

At the Engineering Consultancy firm, he has involved in design, construction supervision, testing and commissioning of Mechanical Services for the following buildings and complexes:

The Mechanical Services consists of Air-Conditioning System, Cold Water and Sanitary Plumbing, Fire Protection Services, Building Automation System, Compressed Air System, Lifts and Overhead Crane.

2. Ir. Chua Keng Seng

Ir. Chua Keng Seng, B.E.(Hons), MIEM, graduated from the University of Malaya in 1974. Qualified as a Professional Engineer, he worked with Carrier Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., first as the Service Manager and then as Engineering Manager for about 9 years.

During the next 30 years, he operated his own companies in contracting, maintenance and also in consultancy business. He has wide experience in the design, installation, trouble shooting on various types of air conditioning systems and also in project management. He was in the design and project management team which implemented the Putrajaya Precinct 2 District Cooling Plant which has a capacity of 30,000 cooling tons.

He works as Technical Advisor in a few air conditioning manufacturing companies, heat pump company, M&E consultant company and district cooling plants.

Ir. Chua has also been involved in many training programmes in last 30 years. He lectured air conditioning design in the Mechanical Faculty of University Malaya between 1978 to 1984 and in Monash University for the last 3 years.  Besides he had been invited to deliver lectures and presentations in the University Technology Malaysia, University Technology Petronas, The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia and conducted in-house training for some Corporate Companies.

3. Ir. Soong Peng Soon

Ir. Soong Peng Soon graduated from University of Malaya in year 1984 and has more than 34 years in the design, manufacturing, construction, testing, operation & maintenance of M&E systems especially large scale HVAC system & M&E components.  He is highly regarded for his wide hands-on experience from design, start-up to operation of many prestigious projects, including the Petronas Twin Towers, Maxis Tower, Sarawak Energy Board HQ, Energy Commission HQ, Putrajaya Holding HQ (Menara PJH), etc.  He also has worked overseas and has contributed his expertise in construction of landmark projects such as Burj Khalifa of Dubai, etc.  He was a factory manager for a large AC plant before.

Ir. Soong is a professional mechanical engineer with strong knowledge in electrical & electronic knowhow, an ASHRAE certified Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) and a Green Building Index certified Commissioning Specialist (CxS), currently overseeing many green building projects and have successfully concluded the final certification of several iconic projects.  His contribution in successful evaluation of building performance with exceptional experience, analytical instrument, skills & technique has defined his leading role in this field.  He is also a building auditor for Architect Centre, a subsidiary of Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) in providing independent building system audit to the industry and he has been an active & senior member of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM).


Over the years, it has been observed that many graduate engineers are unable to present themselves for the Professional Interview (PI) conducted by the IEM because they possess insufficient design experience, which is a prerequisite. This intensive design course will therefore prepare potential candidates for the said PI.

Course Overview

This course is to provide the candidate the knowledge on design, fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning HVAC system for domestic, commercial and industrial installations to ensure safety and proper functioning, and comply with the requirements of international engineering standards.

Course Objectives

The objectives of this course are listed below.
1. Design of mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning (ACMV) system for domestic, industrial and commercial buildings complying with the local authorities and international standards.
2. Mechanical Ventilation System and Uniform Building By-Laws.
3. Design calculations for cooling capacity, air distribution system, refrigerant piping, chilled water system and condenser water system.
4. Energy efficiency system, automation and control philosophy in air-conditioning.
5. Fabrication and installation of air ducts
6. Air-cleaning & filteration system, acoustic consideration, dehumification and condensation factors, balancing air and water side, testing and commissioning HVAC System
7. Operation and Maintenance of HVAC equipments

Course Format

The course consists of formal content presentation. The presenter’s style involves intensive participants’ participation.

Information on Registration

Registration fees covers one set of course notes, refreshments and lunch.  Reservation/Booking by fax or email of intending participants are acceptable with partial payment being forwarded before the closing date. If a place is reserved and the intended participants failed to attend the course on the date of the event the fee is to be settled in full.

The fee paid is non refundable. However substitution of participants(s) will be permitted with approval by IEM. In view of the limited places available, intending participants are advised to send their registration as early as possible so as to avoid disappointment.

The Special Committee reserves the right to alter or change the programme due to unforeseen circumstances. Every effort will be made to inform the registered participants of any changes.
