SYNOPSIS

A process safety incident in the oil, gas, petrochemical industry can result in huge loss of lives, serious damage to the environment and huge financial losses. Having a good process safety culture is important in helping to prevent process safety incidents in this industry. Dialog Group Berhad shares its experience in implementing a process safety culture in the engineering, construction and maintenance environment in this industry.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir Chan Yew Kai graduated with a Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Malaya in 1978. He is a Member of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, UK, an Industry Adviser to University Tuanku Abdul Rahman and a Committee Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers Malaysia (2016-2017).

Ir Chan Yew Kai has over 40 years of experience in the oil, gas, petrochemical industry. He started his career in 1978 as a Process Engineer at Esso Refinery Singapore. Subsequently he returned to Malaysia and joined ICI Malaysia/Chemical Company of Malaysia where he was involved in plant operations and the execution of various petrochemical plant projects. He was also with Petronas for 5 years where he was involved in the project management of the Asean Bintulu Fertiliser Ammonia Urea Project and subsequently assumed the position of Ammonia Plant Manager after the completion of the project.  

In 1993 Ir Chan Yew Kai joined Dialog Group Berhad where he has held various positions starting from General   Manager, Marketing and Business Development to Deputy Group Managing Director in 2005, President and Chief Operating Officer in 2009 and Executive Deputy Chairman in 2014. The company is a listed company on Bursa Malaysia and is involved in the provision of a range of integrated specialist services to the oil, gas and petrochemical industries.
