SYNOPSYS
In terms of transportation, “dangerous cargo or goods“are the materials that could give rise to potential danger to the people in the vicinity and the surrounding environment. These cargo could be in the form of gaseous, liquid or solid, pressurised or unpressurised, packed in bulk tankers or in small containers or boxes. They can be combustible, caustic, explosive or toxic.
In view of the potential danger or hazard, it is imperative that the transportation, including handling is regulated by statutory requirements and guidelines, particularly the vehicle construction, actual cargo movement and measures to be taken in case of accident.
For this talk, the speaker will highlight the various international standards for the transportation by road vehicles on public roads , eg., ISO Standards, Australian Design Rules (ADR), Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), USA. He will then zoom onto the Malaysian legislations and requirements, especially the highly hazardous cargo (eg., combustible, pressurised, or toxic), in tankers or in small size containers or boxes.
Furthermore, the speaker will also elaborate on the constructional features needed for the road vehicles, their regular maintenance and inspection by the vehicle owners and the drivers.
