SYNOPSIS

Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) standard was initiated in 2013 to bring the industry to a higher level of sustainability and transparency. MSPO standards (MS2530:2013 series) was first launched in 2015 and it provides general principles to produce sustainable palm oil that covers the 3Ps (Profit, People, Planet) in Malaysia.

Recently, the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) announced that Malaysia's certification scheme for sustainable palm oil will now be made mandatory. The timeline for obtaining MSPO certification, plantation companies that are already Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certified must obtain MSPO certification by 31st December 2018, while companies without RSPO certification will be given more time to obtain the MSPO certification, which is by 30th June 2019.

Therefore, the course was designed to guide the plantations, estates and mills in Malaysia in developing, implementing and preparing work processes and practices towards certification of Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) under MS 2530:2013. The approach of this course is to establish MSPO implementation through step by step practical guidance using documentation templates and evidence based self-assessment checklist.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Nurul Huda binti Mat Nor is a registered Professional Engineer with Board of Engineer Malaysia (BEM), Institute Engineer Malaysia (IEM) and ASEAN Board of Engineer. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering from University of Malaya (UM) as well as Master Degree in Environmental Engineering from UiTM Shah Alam. She is expecting to complete her PhD in Engineering from UM by 2018.

Her expertise is in Environmental Management System for past 12 years in consulting, training and implementing ISO14001, OHSAS18001, ISO9001 as well as sustainability in palm oil industries supply chain i.e. Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), International Sustainable & Carbon Certification (ISCC) and the latest system is Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) and ISO45001. Her involvement in industrial effluent treatment system together with Department of Environment (DOE) as an Expert in establishing Industrial Effluent Treatment System Module for Level I, II & III as well as experience as 3rd party Auditor with Lloyds Register is great benefit in term of understanding the system very well. She also certified as competence in Industrial Effluent Treatment System Operator – Physical Chemical Treatment (PCP-00135) and Biological Treatment (BP-00164). She also appointed as Prime Minister Hibiscus Award (PMHA) assessor, which the one of environmental prestigious award in Malaysia. As holding the qualified lead assessor in Integrated Management System (IMS), currently she is taking responsibility and challenge as the Strategic Business Development Director which aggressively promoted MSPO certification to all palm oil industries player. With her understanding the system very well, she manages to help palm oil industries to sustainability operate the mills or plantations.
