SYNOPSIS
Safety touches every aspect of organisational systems. Safety is not just reacting to accidents and emergencies but more importantly planning to prevent accident from happening, where basic understanding of industrial hazards is undeniably the first step towards an effective accident prevention programme. Safety is not just a support activity but a value adding one. By ensuring that there is no risk to employees and process equipment, optimum performance can be achieved. Therefore, this talk will discuss about Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Control (HIRAC) as an effective tool to prevent accidents particularly in engineering projects. It is expected that this talk will assist the participants to determine various types of accidents, understand the roles of safety and health committee, identify various hazards at the workplace, analyse the risk involved and recommend hazard control measures.
