SYNOPSIS

Since 2006, the International Road Assessment Programme or iRAP is adopted worldwide as an alternative to conventional practice of identifying road safety issues and countermeasures such as in black spot programme and road safety audit. The iRAP Malaysia programme was launched early 2016 by the Ministry of Transport whereby a steering committee comprising key agencies across different ministries was set up under the Cabinet Committee for Road Safety. The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) who was appointed as one of the iRAP Centre’s of Excellence, is currently leading the programme to star rate high volume roads and propose high impact countermeasures. Since the launch, more than 10,000km of roads have been star rated with potential countermeasures proposed to the road authorities. This session will highlight the approach undertaken in the iRAP Malaysia programme and the methodology adopted to determine the star ratings.
