Synopsis

With so many road accidents reported in the media lately, ranging from cars and buses crashing into road barriers to accidents during construction and the ever increasing number of vehicles on the road, it is imperative that more emphasis on road safety be incorporated in all road engineering designs. Road Safety Audit is a formal examination of the planning, design and construction of a road project by independent and qualified examiners to identify any potentially unsafe feature or operational arrangement that may adversely affect the safety of any road user. RSA is an effective accident prevention strategy, utilizing investigative methods and mitigative measures that may be taken to improve the safety level of the road.

Road safety is now given much priority in road planning, design and construction. Prior to a road construction, a TMP has to be provided by the contractor to show the method to systematically construct the road with traffic management to protect all road users and workers from work zone hazards.

The seminar will cover:
• The role of the road engineer/designer, road safety auditor and authorities
• The flow chart/interactions between them
• Guidelines and standard references
• The various stages of a road safety audit
• Standard TMP layouts and their various zones
• What does a road safety audit look out for – practical issues
