SYNOPSIS

MyCREST stands for Malaysian Carbon Reduction and Sustainability Tool which is under the purview of Ministry of Works. It was develop by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Department of Public Works (JKR) since 2012 and was launched in 2016. The Malaysian government is planning to mandating that all public projects worth RM50 million and above to adopt MyCREST tool. MyCREST aims to quantify and lower the carbon footprint of construction projects by quantifying building carbon emission in term of embodied carbon and operational carbon.

MyCREST, a tool that guides every stakeholder involved in the design, construction, operation & maintenance of building by adopting sustainable development practices. It also aims to quantify the actual carbon emission at every stage of the building life cycle. MyCREST aims to guide, assist, quantify and thereby reduce the built environment’s impact in terms of reduced carbon emissions and other environmental impact. It also aims to integrate socioeconomic considerations related to the built environment and urban development.

In this course, the speaker will introduce to the audience an overview of MyCREST, its rating system inclusive on some of the important criteria, submission scoreboard as well as the certification process. The speaker will also share some of the good initiatives demonstrated by MyCREST certified projects on the how to reduce the embodied carbon for the building.

• To expose on the general assessment structure of MyCREST
• To impart the knowledge for correct interpretation of the pre-requisites and requirements stipulated in the MyCREST reference guides
• To provide guidance in preparing objectively the required submittals
• To assist in completing the scorecard and using carbon calculator
• To share good practices in implementing MyCREST

BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Chong Chew Fan is a Practicing Electrical Engineer and currently base in Selangor. He graduated with a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Ir. Chong is one of the Committee Member who is actively involved in the development of MyCREST from the initial stage and currently he is serving as one of the MyCREST Project Assessor and regular speaker for CIDB on MyCREST. Ir. Chong is also serve as Green Building Index Accreditation Panel (GBIAP) Member, Council Member of Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) and Chairman of Electrical Engineering Technical Division (EETD) of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM).
