Graduate Engineers applying to undergo the practical training in the IEM Engineers Log are required to take note of the new guidelines with effect from 1 June 2012.

  • shall be a person who is not less than 17 years of age
  • pursuing a course leading to the award of an engineering degree or diploma or equivalent
  • Candidate enrolled for Part I or Part II of the IEM /BEM Graduate Examination or Examination of an overseas professional institution recognised by the Council
  • Submits application form IEM(S) and
  • Letter from Vice-Chancellor or Head of Department (local university only) or
  • Approval letter to sit for IEM/BEM Graduate Examination/Engineering Council Examination
Associate

  • Candidate shall produce evidence to the satisfaction of the Council that he has obtained a recognised diploma in engineering from a polytechnic/college, or has obtained equivalent qualification
  • Submits application form IEM Associate Member
  • Diploma certificate and transcripts
Affiliate

  • Candidate shall produce evidence to the satisfaction of the Council that he is connected with the engineering profession, and
  • That he is a graduate in the applied sciences from a university / college of recognised standing and has been in the active practice of his special field for not less than five years or
  • That he has been in active practice of his special pursuit for not less than ten years, and he has held responsible position for not less than three years
  • Submits application form IEM Affiliate  Member
  • Degree certificate and transcripts
  • Evidence of working experience
Incorporated

  • Candidate shall produce evidence to the satisfaction of the Council that he is a graduate with an engineering degree which is not on The Institution’s Accredited List or that he has undertaken a graduate engineering course but has not yet qualified for admission as a Graduate Member or as a Student Member
  • Submits application form IEM Incorporated Member
  • Degree certificate and transcripts
  • Certificates from overseas universities issued in foreign languages must be accompanied by translation from University Registrar/Embassy Officials

IEM Log Book Training Scheme guidelines

  • A candidate for admission or transfer into this grade shall be not less than 18 years of age and shall produce evidence to the satisfaction of the IEM Council
  • That he has graduated with an accredited engineering degree or has obtained an equivalent qualification approved by the Council
  • Submits application form IEM (G)
  • Degree certificates together with transcripts
  • Certificates from overseas universities issued in foreign languages must be accompanied by translation from University Registrar/Embassy Officials
  • Evidence to show discipline/branch of engineering if the information is not in certificate
Member

  • A candidate for election into this grade shall produce evidence to the satisfaction of the Council that he is worthy of election and
  • That he has a graduate qualification as approved by the Council and
  • Is a graduate engineer for a minimum period of three years
  • Preferably the candidate must be working under the guidance of a Professional Engineer for a minimum of three years
  • Having practical experience in engineering in a manner satisfactory to the Council i.e in planning, design, executive or management of such works as are comprised within the profession of engineering, or in engineering research, or the teaching of engineering in a course leading to a qualification
  • Refer the Professional Interview Guidelines for information (Professional Interview Guidelines)
  • Submits application form IEM/PI (1) and IEM/PI (2)
  • BEM Registration Letter/Certificate as a Graduate Engineer (Election cases)
  • Degree certificates together with transcripts
  • Certificates from overseas universities issued in foreign languages must be accompanied by translation from University Registrar/Embassy Officials
  • Evidence to show discipline/branch of engineering if the information is not in certificate
  • Payment of PI fees:-
    - RM 150.00 (Graduate member)
    - RM 200.00 (Non-graduate member)
  • Form completed with signatures of  1 Proposer and 1Seconder (Members of IEM)
  • Experience clearly tabulated after the date of graduation and breakdown of experience recorded in months
  • Signatures of 2 engineers to verify experience on the Practical and Training section of the form
  • For Civil Engineering candidates, at least 1 year site and 1 year design experience are required
  • Form IEM/PI (2) to be submitted when called for Interview
  • Name will be circulated in IEM Bulletin for a month
Fellow

  • Entering this grade shall be only by transfer from the grade of Member
  • A member for transfer must not be less than 35 years of age and
  • who have served as Member of IEM of not less than 5 years employment in position of major responsibility in planning, design, execution or management of important engineering work
  • who has occupied a prominent position in the profession of engineering, and has either made noteworthy contribution to the science of engineering or materially advanced the practice of engineering
  • Submits the IEM Form (F) together with Organization chart
  • Position served to be highlighted
  • Signatories of 6 engineers of which 4 are Corporate Members and 2 are Fellow Members of IEM
  • Brief tabulation of experience
