Call for Abstracts Nomination of Malaysian Candidates to Represent IEM
The IEM-CIE-HKIE Tripartite Seminar on “Resilient and Sustainable Solutions for Geotechnical Engineering"
BACKGROUND
The
IEM-CIE-HKIE Tripartite Seminar aims to create a venue for interactive
discussions and sharing of experience in multi-discipline engineering among
Chinese Institute of Engineers (CIE, Taiwan), Hong Kong Institution of
Engineers (HKIE), and The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). The seminar
is hosted in turn among the three professional institutions. This year, IEM
will be hosting the One Day IEM-CIE-HKIE Tripartite Seminar with the theme “Resilient
and Sustainable Solutions for Geotechnical Engineering". Geotechnical
structures such as foundations, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, and
underground works are essential for built environment infrastructures. It is
inevitable to integrate sustainability and resilient solutions in geotechnical
engineering to reduce the adverse environmental impact and enhancing social and
economic value to the society. This seminar will be held on 11 November 2022
and a total of ten papers from three professional institutions will be
presented. NOMINATION
OF MALAYSIAN CANDIDATES
The
Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division (GETD), IEM invites engineers
registered with IEM to submit a suitable abstract and a brief CV for the
IEM-CIE-HKIE Tripartite Seminar. Four candidates will be selected to represent
IEM to present the technical papers in this seminar. The selection process will
be based on the abstracts submitted, and decision made by the Committee of GETD
will be final. Within
a period of one month after the seminar, the candidates shall submit a written

submission should be about 300 words and papers discussing on the following
topics that are pertinent to the seminar theme “Resilient and Sustainable
Solutions for Geotechnical Engineering" are invited:
- Innovative design and construction
methods in geotechnical engineering
- Impact of climatic changes on
geotechnical infrastructures
- Sustainable geomaterials applications and
ground improvement practices
- Reusable foundation and geotechnical
structures
- Methods and technologies for review and
assessment in geotechnical engineering
IMPORTANT
