Executive Summary of Survey No. 4 on Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic on IEM Members

INTRODUCTION
In view of the anticipated impact due to the
Movement Control Order (MCO) implemented by the government in March 2020, IEM issued
surveys to gauge the impact of the MCO and the pandemic on IEM members. The first three surveys conducted were: - Survey
1 – Impact of COVID-19 on IEM Members – responses: 472 Employees, 275 Employers
and 54 Retired Engineers – completed on 9 April 2020
- Survey
2 – Impact of COVID-19 on Student Members – responses: 383 – completed on 7 May
2020
- Survey
3 – Follow Up (1) Survey on Impact of COVID-19 – responses: 304 Employees, 144
Employers and 40 Retired Engineers – completed on 30 June 2020.
With the move from MCO to CMCO and
thereafter RMCO as well as the various incentives, stimulus packages etc
implemented by the government, this Survey 4 was conducted in view of the:
- expiry
of the 6-month moratorium
- announcement
of additional incentive package from the government via the KITAPRIHATIN
initiative
As
the current global situation is very volatile, this report extracted from
responses of IEM members on Survey No. 4 which was designed to meet the following
Terms of Reference (TOR),provided some valuable data to IEM for further actions
where needed: (i) understand the financial impact of Post 1stMCO/COVID-19 pandemic to IEM members in terms of business/employer and personal, (ii) understand the Post 1stMCO/COVID-19 pandemic impact on the employment status of IEM members, (iii) obtain feedback/suggestions from IEM members on possible initiatives which the government could take to revive the economy and the industry
The survey questionnaire was sent to members on 10 December 2020 and was closed on 23 December 2020. As IEM members cut across many levels with different needs, the survey was divided into two categories– employers and employees and sent to 15,905 members. A total of 669 responses were received, comprising 92 who are Employers and 577 who are Employees.
