IEM Online Robotic Challenge 2020 for Primary and Secondary School Students

BACKGROUND
The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) being the forefront in promoting and advancement of the science and profession of engineering took
up the challenge to deliver series of higher quality STEM activities for school students through digital classes, talks, hands-on activities and competition since 2018. However, with concern on the COVID-19 pandemic and to adhere to mass gathering restriction, for year 2020 IEM will be conducting IEM Online Robotic Challenge 2020 competition for Selangor state level instead. IEM Online Robotic Challenge will be conducted within month August 2020 to November 2020 also in support of “Minggu Sains Negara – Peringkat Negeri Selangor”. The main objective of IEM Online Robotic Challenge is to reach out to as many primary school and secondary school students as possible especially within Selangor and introduce them to STEM and give them opportunity to experience themselves competitive activities related to technology and engineering, like a robotic and innovation competition.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
1. LINE FOLLOWING ROBOT
• Line following robot where robot has to
move along a black line track from start to finish line.
• Using only robot that is built using off
the shelves controller and components (DIY) ie not bought in and purpose built
robot
• Two open sub-categories:
i. Primary
school students (6 to 12 years old)
ii. Secondary school students (12 to 17 years old)
• Participants: 2 students • Team coordinator: 1 teacher / coach / mentor * Detail rule and
regulation will be available for download or through email
• Line following robot where robot has to
move along a black line track with junctions on the track where robot has to be
programmed take junctions to pass through certain check points from start to
finish line
• Can use bought-in or purpose built robot
• Two open sub-categories:
i. Primary
school students (6 to 12 years old) ii. Secondary
school students (12 to 17 years old)
• Participants: 2 students • Team coordinator: 1 teacher / coach / mentor * Detail rule and
regulation will be available for download or through email
LINE FOLLOWING ROBOT Line Following Robot (DIY
robot) Estimated price - RM50 to RM100 *to be purchased by participants on one’s own from eg.
hobby stores or university or private STEM companies (not part of registration
fees)
PATH FINDING ROBOT Path Finding Robot (purpose
built robot) Estimated price - RM200 to RM500 *to be purchased by participants on one’s own from eg.
hobby stores or university or private STEM companies (not part of registration
fees)
REGISTRATION FEES Registration
