Course Overview

This course is designed to strengthen your understanding of the following areas:

1.     Recognise electrical hazards, including direct contact, indirect contact, thermal,
        overcurrent, static and arc-related risks.
2.    Describe suitable controls, PPE and basic HIRARC principles using the hierarchy of controls.
3.    Relate Malaysian legal requirements and MS IEC 60364 principles to electrical safety.
4.    Distinguish basic protection from fault protection for direct and indirect contact.
5.    Calculate three-phase short-circuit currents using IEC 60909, ohmic and per-unit methods.
6.    Use sequence networks to calculate earth and line-to-line fault currents.
7.    Relate fault-current results to switchgear ratings, relay/RCD settings and safety decisions.



Course Format

The course consists of classroom presentations. Participants are encouraged to actively engage in discussions. For online class, the participants are required to switch on their camera for verification purposes any time requested.



Biodata of Facilitator

Ir. Assoc. Prof. Dr Wong Jianhui
MIEM, PE

•  PhD holder in Electrical Engineering, HRDF accredited trainer awarded by Human Resource
    Development Corporation (HRD Corp).
•  Research engineer with 11 years of extensive experience in the area of power system analysis
    and energy management.
•  Principal investigator of the national and international funds, and diligent team member in
    fourteen (14) research projects with a total grant amount of RM 4.54 million.
•  Edited a book, published 3 book chapters, 23 high-impact journals, and 17 international
    conference papers from the research outcomes of her projects.
•  Co-inventor of three (3) research patents. Passionate lecturer with substantial training and
    teaching experience specializing in power system analysis, power system protection, energy
    management, and electrical building services.
•  Qualified Huawei HCIA-DCF Systems Instructor.
•  Has advanced knowledge and skill in using power system software including ETAP,
    PSCAD/EMTDC, and DigSilent Power Factory.
