SYNOPSIS
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is clothing or equipment designed to reduce employee exposure to chemical, biological, and physical hazards when on a worksite. It is used to protect employees when engineering and administrative controls are not feasible to reduce the risks to acceptable levels. There are 7 types of PPE that require the approval from Director General of DOSH which includes respiratory, hearing, eyes, hands, foot, body and head protection. The requirements for PPE approval are stipulated in Factory and Machinery Act 1967, Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994. The scope of DOSH approval is applicable for all PPE products using in the workplaces, including both imported and locally made PPE products. The course will provide guidance for participants to understand the date of DOSH SIRIM certification being enforce, what they need to know about their current PPE inventory and the next purchasing of PPE product to be used in Malaysia, the list of approved PPE, how to get product certification from SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd., correct type of PPE Selection and more. This course will also cover on PPEs to prevent unnecessary injury in the workplace, protect employees from excessive chemical exposure, prevent the spread of germs and infectious diseases including COVID-19, help businesses comply with regulatory requirements; and improve employee productivity and efficiency by using proper type of PPEs.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
Ms. Sherlyn Voon Chel Ling is a Technical Service Engineer in Occupational Health and Environmental Safety, with experience in the field of safety, health and environmental. She Graduated with Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Chemistry, Master Degree (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, University of Malaya. Currently she is attached to Personal Safety Division, serves as the Technical Service Engineer on Respiratory Protection Products/programs, Hearing Protection Products/programs, Head, Eye and Face Protection, Body Protection, Chemical Sorbent and relevant regulations on occupational health and environmental safety. She had done various training on the subject related to Personnel Protective Equipment and to advise proper control measures. She is very involved with seminar and paper presentation since 2012 in various conference, seminar and workshop. Apart from that, she actively involves with regulatory development affair for associations and technical committee such as Malaysian Industry Hygienist Association (MIHA) Committee, Malaysia Standard (MS) Technical Committee, TC (Technical Committee) for Personal Safety – Protective Clothing and Equipment for Occupational Use, Represent CICM as alternative representative in Industry Standard Committee of Occupational Safety and Health, ISCW to review Malaysia Standard development and adoption.
