SYNOPSIS

Since being talked about in 2016, industry players, academicians and consumers in Malaysia have begun to take interest in the technologies around the 4th industrial revolution. One of the most widely accepted technologies is the Internet of Things or IoT in short. What is IoT? In essence, IoT is a system that has electronics components to monitor conditions and control certain actuators while at the same time having a means of communication to the Internet. With these capabilities, one of the key advantages is the ability for the user to remotely monitor and control the IoT system.
Agricultural industry, being one of the industries that could greatly improve yield by having continuous precise monitoring and control, has also joined the bandwagon in adopting IoT.

However, how does one start to adopt and implement IoT in agriculture? Speakers will discuss the practical steps one could take: ideation, designing, prototyping, sourcing, testing and commissioning. With these practical knowledge sharing, it is hope more engineers would get hands-on and build your own IoT system.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. Amir Hussein Bin Jaafar graduated from University of Technology Petronas (UTP) with Bachelor Engineering (Electrical and Electronics) and from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) with Master of Science (Real Time Software). He is registered as a Professional Engineer (Electronics) status with Board of Engineers Malaysia since 2007. He has more than 22 years of experience in electronics hardware and embedded software development projects, and development and testing of advance powertrain and electronic control system for automotive application. With the industry experience, he has been giving specialized green technology training to TVET trainers and conducting STEM courses for school and university students and working professionals since 2016. He was awarded the HRDF Certified Trainer in 2020 and is currently the Technical Director for Micro Concept Tech Sdn Bhd.

Ir. Chai Chen Sing had 25 years of experience in the engineering industry. His experience range from consulting services and contracting in construction industry, SCADA implementation for processing plant, web application development and machine to machine communication. He is currently the principal consultant for Versoset Engineers Sdn Bhd and also the technical director for Mercatura, a m2m solution provider. He heads the technical development for integrated custom made embedded system as well as web application development utilising cloud solution. Ir. Chai Chen Sing graduated from University of New South Wales, Australia in 1992. He served as committee members of ICT Special Interest Group since 2014 and he is the advisor for the session 2021/2022.
