BACKGROUND
MTC or Marine Technology Centre is one of many research centres in UTM for being a research university. In these centres including MTC, research of any kinds are carried out to serve many purposes. Lecturers mainly, use the facilities to carry out research with students for academic awards such as Degree, Master and PhD. At the same times lecturers also carry out research in collaboration with external academic as well industrial partners. UTM through MTC is among the first institution of higher learning in Malaysia dealing specifically with R & D in marine technology. The areas of research mainly centred on ship design, hydrodynamics, ship stability, CAD, small ship production, underwater vehicles, offshore structures, alternative materials for small boats and marine transport system. On top of doing research, lecturers also use the facilities for income generation through short courses and consultancy works. A short virtual visit to MTC will enlighten participants on the roles and functions of MTC in UTM and Malaysia.
