SYNOPSIS

Extensive use of individual septic tanks, oxidation ponds, communal septic and Imhoff tanks in Malaysia has been proved as unreliable low cost secondary systems in long term. These systems can only partially treat sewage. Hence, large presence of organic material in the effluent discharge is still a problem here. This will eventually cause public health and environmental problems in urban areas. It is hoped that Malaysia’s sewerage system can be made more efficient in long term. This can be done by standardizing the sewerage plants and the system being deployed in the plants. One of the method would be improving solid wastes management. Efficient cost and effective wastewater treatment system can be both achieved with an improvised solid wastes system.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

M.Sc ( tech. ) Heli Karaila; Business manager of Valmet is responsible for Valmet’s wastewater business globally. Heli has been developing business as well as selling and developing wastewater related products globally and has good knowledge of the wastewater market. Heli has rich experience from customer projects and developing automation related solutions for municipal as well as in the industrial processes. Valmet is the member of Finnish Water Association as well as Finnish Water Forum. Heli has also been an active member of these associations and in that way she has a large Finnish water and wastewater network, which includes companies, municipalities as well as authorities. Heli is a member of the Finnish Society of Automation Board since 2019 and Finnish Water Forum since 2020.
