SYNOPSIS

Healthcare management is experiencing a war on Covid-19 pandemic now. It is an unprecedented disaster where the whole world is being challenged how to effectively deal with the situation. In the talk, the speaker shall not only explain on the biological disaster management for hospital but all other potential disasters that hospital management need to be prepared for.

As a summary, healthcare disaster management can be classified into the followings :

a) External Disaster Plan (also classified as Community Affected – Healthcare Facility Unaffected): during such scenarios, the Healthcare Facility plays a vital role in the disaster response being undertaken. For the Healthcare Facility, such scenarios would imply a sudden increase in demand for patient care services because of the surge in the number of patients seeking medical attention. There is a possibility of the Healthcare Facility getting overwhelmed if adequate preparedness and response mechanisms are not swung into action as soon as the disaster is reported.

b) Internal Disaster Plans (also classified as Community Unaffected – Healthcare Facility Affected): Such scenarios arise from the internal disasters within the Healthcare Facility. As such, partial or complete evacuation and transfer of critical patients to networking facilities is the key to successful response. Such scenarios also demand a high degree of preparedness on the side of the Facility administration and staff, as well as a speedy response from the surrounding community and Healthcare Facilities. The speaker than shall touch on Business Recovery Plan for both internal and external disasters, business recovery plan shall be available for the facility to normalcy after the event.


BIODATA OF SPEAKER

Ir. AL-KHAIRI MOHD DAUD
P.Eng, PEM, C Eng, CPSI, MIEM, MMEPA, MMSQH, REEM

Ir. Al-Khairi is a professional mechanical engineer nearly 30 years experiences spanning various sectors in research, cement, oil and gas, petrochemical, oleo chemicals industries and health care facilities. He has gained various experiences in design, construction, testing and commissioning, operate and maintain facilities and plants from various multinational companies both abroad and locally. With such a diverse industrial background, Ir. Al-Khairi has formed Faqeh Management, focusing in energy, asset and reliability improvement for the industry.

For healthcare industry, Ir Al-Khairi was the chief consultant that formulate the government Hospital Support Services Concessions Contract. As one of the surveyors for Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH), Ir Al-Khairi was involved in drafting of the MSQH Environmental and Safety Services Standard and Facilities and Biomedical Management and Safety Standard for the 4th,  5th and 6th Edition.  He has been appointed as the panel expert for Medical Gas System to Medical Device Authority (MDA) in advising the registration and requirements of the medical gas equipment and system. He is also part of the team to develop Healthcare Lift standard with Malaysian Standard.

For the past ten year, Ir Al-Khairi has been active in operating, training, auditing and advising healthcare organizations on how to improve the facilities and to minimize the risk for patients, staff and visitors to hospitals.
