SYNOPSIS
Occupational noise exposure and hearing conservation programs are oftentimes one of the most challenging programs to manage in the industrial setting. As safety professionals, we should more aware and is well versed in this occupational noise exposure on how it may affect diverse work forces.
In 2019, based on accident and occupational disease by Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) a total of 9,860 accident and occupational disease has been reported and about 91% (8,997) is an occupational hearing loss. It shows a really huge number of workers who experienced significant hearing loss related to work.
Therefore, in June 2019, new regulations have been introduced which is Noise Exposure Regulations 2019 under Occupational Safety & Health Act 1994. The speaker will share the knowledge related to legal compliances and to educate as well as creating awareness among participant as this new regulation is a safe practice designed to protect and prevent occupational hearing loss. This also to ensure that all high noise area personnel are aware of the current hazards and steps to reduce the hazards.
BIODATA OF SPEAKER
MR. K. OMANTARAM graduated with a Degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) in 1993 and Master of Science from National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1999 and also currently pursuing Ph.D. program with National University of Malaysia (UKM) where the research on Quality and Productivity Improvement. (Green Manufacturing Implementation in Malaysia).
He began his career as a Quality Manager in a manufacturing organization for a multinational company for 18 years. He has wide experience in raw material procurement, incoming quality assurance, machine and equipment maintenance, process trouble shooting, production planning, supplier chain management, Total Quality Assurance as well as engineering and human resource management and training (Human Capital) in manufacturing. He also has extensive senior management experience in industrial change management and has worked across all disciplines and in a wide range of sectors including chemical, environmental, safety and total quality management.
Mr. K. Omantaram is a Certified Noise Risk Assessor registered with Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and Certified Trainer approved by Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) and Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF).
